I bought this because the other gates were either too wide or just didn't fit our staircase. With these gates, they are small enough to fit perfectly from railing to wall. I had no problems with the size or with a board to fill in gaps. The gate itself arrived fully assembled, I just had to install it in the doorway or in my case the passageway to our staircase.
