I liked the set, good for lessons, a bit smaller than usual school sets, 17" instead of 21". The smaller size makes it easier to place this set on most tables. The details are good, the carrying case is acceptable, but the strap is a little weak. No extra queens to promote a pawn. All in all it was $16.49 when I bought it.

I love this set. The kids had just joined the chess club and we needed something to take with them. The board is made of durable and thick vinyl. The pieces are hollow with a felt bottom but are a good weight. They roll the boards to fit in a container and the pieces are stacked with the board in a hollow tube. The tube is the box that the game comes in. The tube has a rope handle so it can be easily placed on the arm or shoulder.

I bought 3 of these sets for chess beginners. The parts are heavy enough not to tip over. The rug is durable, the edges won't bend when you lay it flat. I really like the portable tube with the handle. I think it should stand up with time if nobody hits it or sits on it. I wish it had come with extra queens but the price was good so I'm not complaining.

Items too small for board - luckily I had another board and set of items to swap out. I collect chess boards etc and I know what I'm talking about. I constantly follow the news of the leading suppliers of chess equipment in Europe and the USA. I bought online a vinyl analysis board from Slovenia, 45mm square, perfect for the items that came with this travel kit. The board here is great but I needed bigger pieces which I bought in Slovenia because the square is 47mm otherwise it's a good set.

I like this chess. This is WAY better than the super cheap set I used. It's big, the mat stays flat and rolls up easily to store in a tube, and the grid of numbers and letters helps me finally learn how to play the game. I paid $17 and the stuff is good quality for the price, easy to travel and a good size. The board needs some airing, but the smell wasn't a big issue for me. No problem with the set I received. The chemical smell that others have mentioned went away after I placed the parts in front of a fan for a few minutes. The carpet is excellent, always fits right the first time. Good print quality, dark ink and sharp edges/letters. The parts are well shaped and have felt (without weighting) on the underside.
