Works very well. I have a steady hand, but figuring out the angle wasn't easy if I wasn't familiar with it. The clever design of the elastic fits the stone perfectly and you use the wedge to start the movement at the right angle. Unlike other guidance systems, this isn't affected by the "height" of the blade or any other fancy calculations to think about. Simply attach the desired number and start sharpening. The only drawback is the design. If you use them you will lose about an inch of the…

Uh, barely enough.

Eh. Well, if you're just starting out, maybe. I needed a way to set the blade at 15 degrees on my fillet knife. They arrived en masse in a bag. I found what I wanted, tied it to a rock with a rubber band and tried it out. A small ¾ inch wide guide for the knife to slide on is a good start, as long as you keep the blade straight and true to the stone. I have 10 inch bricks. I can start at 15 degrees, but staying there is another matter. I only needed a couple of blades to cut the lead. Weak…

They can really help

I bought these because they have many different angles and you can use them to check what you are doing. Don't be an "experienced" sharpener and still learn. I find this to be a good tool to check how you're going to place your item before you start sharpening. You get an idea of where you are. This can really help if you're walking from a different angle than usual. It seems to me that angles of 15-20 degrees are fixed without problems. But small or large (if necessary) help is always good…

simplifies sharpening for a few dollars

I've been sharpening knives for a few years, but I've never been good at it. At times I could get hair with sharp edges, but I wasn't consistent. I tried a sharpening system that is pressed against the blade with special sharpening stones. It was a pain to set up and quite expensive. It was used once. This simple and inexpensive solution works great! After darkening the edge with a marker and using a guide, it became clear that my sharpening angle was very different. A little work with the…

Cons
  • Not sure

After only two sharpening sessions, I find wedges to be an important tool for saving time and reducing wear and tear on my kitchen knives. Keeping sharp whetstone kitchen knives is an absolute pleasure, but finding the right angle to sharpen ANY knife can be tedious and time-consuming. Wedges eliminate both problems. For many years I have been sharpening my knives with inexpensive pull-through sharpeners and more expensive three-stage electric sharpeners. The wear on the knives was dramatic and
