Well not quiet but effective. Even on the highest audio setting, I can hear it pretty clearly. It's very well built. I use this whistle to play hide and seek with my dog. I hide in the yard and whistle until he finds me, then give him a treat. I think if he ever gets out of the yard I can use the whistle to find him. Of course, if my neighbors did the same, we would have problems.

I bought this whistle along with a few others to see which one works best for me. This one was a big disappointment. No matter how you tune it, the whistle sounds awful. PROS: This whistle looks solid because of its all metal construction and the price was cheap because it is all metal which is why I bought this whistle over a whistle with plastic parts that wear out and/or break. easy.
