The counterweight isn't heavy enough to hold the light wand in place, and horizontal positioning is tricky.

Agree with many others that the installation is difficult ...I asked an electrician to do this and luckily he has a good sense of humor.What disappointed me the most is that the counterbalance ball isn't heavy enough to hold the light bar in place.It lowers. We improvised with little black ties on the pulleys to hold them in place I saw a review that said they added bb to theirs to get the right one to get weight. It was also difficult to position so that the bar and counterweight were level…

BEWARE! It's hard to install!

Whoever designed this thing's installation is an idiot. If placed according to the instructions, not only will it fall from the ceiling, it may injure or kill someone, especially a child. The installation requires the use of cheap plastic wall anchors which are notorious for pulling out in shear, while this installation requires them to be used in tension that pops out of the ceiling DURING installation. The sphere piece weighs approximately 3-4 pounds (1.5-2 grams) and must be assembled…

Interesting style lamp that can be reconfigured

I was a little hesitant to buy this lamp because the reviews weren't very favorable, but I'm glad I did. The manufacturer must have read the previous reviews and made significant improvements which include an illustrated (even in colour) full 4 page lamp fitting guide. So the installation of the lamp is now very easy.
