🎨 Winsor & Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oil Colour Studio Set, 10x 37ml Tubes Review

One day my high school art professor told me never to use black because it makes the colors less vivid. However, a true beginner might not know this, so this is a starter kit and not a beginner's kit. In fact, this is the only set you need if you know how to mix colors. If you want black, you have to buy it separately.

This was my first set of water soluble oils, I had them pre all mediums so I would say they are good for beginners. I just made my color charts but I think Cobra is easier to use imo. They have amazing old colors so if you want to do more portraits or even copy old masters they are perfect for that! They lend themselves well to layers if you choose to paint this way.

I've been using old fashioned oils for years but I wanted to try this formula. I LOVE them because cleaning is a breeze, there's no solvent smell, and the splashing of water onto the canvas as you work allows for nice blending or layering. You can also spread the colors lightly with a spatula. I have nothing bad to say about these wonderful oils. I also want to expand my color options but this set is perfect for size, value, variety etc.

I would give 5 stars if the contents were as advertised. I bought this set because it is shown to contain linseed oil mixed with water; However, I got water-miscible (proper) and standard linseed oil paint (not water-miscible) sealed in the packaging. Somehow got to the point that these colors can only be used with soap and water to clean. Probably a manufacturer error. .Now I take separately modified linseed oil.

Eco-friendly, cleans up with soap and water and mixes well with standard turpentine to form a rich, clear color paste. I found painting with plain water to be an unsatisfying experience, but I think it would work well for those who absolutely cannot stand fumes of any kind. I would recommend this paint to anyone, even "professionals" as it also mixes well with standard oil paints, although you will lose water purification if you use too many regular oils.
