Doesn't work, only a high level master.

Very annoying puzzle. I don't see how this is even supposed to work because the parts fit so closely together. It's almost impossible to see how it works. I broke over a dozen pieces just trying to get it out of the frame and a few more trying to put it back together. The wax doesn't help at all, and many of the pieces fit together so tightly that you don't have enough leverage to put them together, causing the pieces to break. Will not buy again and will not recommend

  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Periodicity

Very cool model, just doesn't work

This model is for those who pay attention to details. Grinding, waxing and careful assembly ensure the main gearbox runs very smoothly. But then, after the rubber bands and frame are in place, nothing moves smoothly unless the gears are moved by your fingers. It's such a shame as this model has features I haven't seen in other wooden models such as wooden gears turning in wooden bushings. and a pair of wooden thrust roller bearings. Very fancy design but it ties after attaching the frame and…

  • Good product for its price

Total Junk - Puzzle

Looks cool but doesn't move. Polished, used paraffin, uses the bee method. All smaller individual sections freely rotatable. As smaller sections were added to the main body, the gears became increasingly difficult to turn. As the kit got bigger and more gears were added, it was almost impossible to get anything moving. The finished product does not move at all. Seriously, don't waste your money looking for a working spider. I've built over 200 models over the last 15 years so this wasn't my…

Cool looking model: Puzzles

Great looking model, although it doesn't work. Models that you need to understand, this will most likely not work or will work 100%. when completed. So I recommend buying a model that you enjoy looking at, even if it doesn't move. I suspect the problem is behind, maybe because of the casters. I've built several of these models and have about 50% success getting them to work, even with sanding and waxing. It only takes a little shifting in a gear to have enough resistance to keep the rubber band

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Some little things

Difficult project

It was difficult but I made it. It works, somehow. The legs move. My spider moves about a foot or so. It will probably move more if I wrap the rubber bands tighter. But I'm scared of breaking the block. You will need pliers and side cutters for assembly. The details are very tight. I bought extra sandpaper. Before I insert the toothpicks, I wax them. That makes the job easier. Be careful when pulling out parts. Some are very long and narrow. I use a knife to cut off some to free them. Also, be…

NO MOVEMENTS AT ALL in puzzles

I like putting these things together and I was really looking forward to seeing this guy move but it didn't work. I followed the instructions BEFORE THE LETTER, assembled everything correctly, waxed the movement points as he shows me, turned the "key" as he tells me, then flipped the lever, and nothing happens. I take my time to get it right and nothing happens. It's really annoying. This isn't the first time I've put together a promising move that didn't work. That's called false advertising…

Please read the instructions! A few tips will help!

Okay, read the instructions first. You have great tips. Note that the drawing contains nicks that align with cutouts around holes or part edges. They are used to align parts in the correct position and also serve as markers for where the toothpicks should be cut. Don't use a blade! Use the clippers to cut the toothpicks. (And please point them away from you so they don't fly towards you!). Use the hand tool included in the kit to remove the pieces from the boards with the least amount of burrs…
