Saved my day

There was about 20 feet 1/2 inch thick oak planks along the length of the stairs and the installer didn't bother to round the edges so it looked bad. Using a router wasn't an option - there wasn't enough space for storage. This tool saved the day by rounding 20 feet of oak tree in about 3 minutes! On the slightly negative side 1) Blade adjustment is tricky and the instructions can't tell exactly how, so it was trial and error and bugs with scrap pieces, but after a proper adjustment everythingโ€ฆ

An underrated gem for woodworkers

I've been using this tool for twenty five years now. I gave them to friends who don't have wood planes or don't want to learn. With very little effort, I consistently achieve very good results on the edges of your wood projects. It just requires you to pay attention to which direction the grains are going so you don't plan against the grains, it's that simple. If you've tried to get a smooth, rounded edge on softwood, you know how difficult it is can be if you use a block of sandpaper toโ€ฆ

Great plane but no quality control

This is a good tool but there is no quality control. The first one I got had a large chip on the top and the carbide blades were sharpened at an angle maybe 15-20 degrees off center, I mean the side angle not the cutting edge. I sent the first one back, the second one is completely different, the concentricity is good, the edges are sharpened straight. I greased the set screws and sharpened the carbide tips slightly. Now that's a great plane. I cut out several MDF shelves and a piece of plywood

Pros
  • One year trial period
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

It's hard to squeeze or I'll get weak!

Not that I use hand tools much. But having been a contractor since 1991 and working in the construction industry since the 1960's, it seems like it took a lot of effort to make it work. And it's a feat in giving you a finished edge in one pass. I had to reconfigure it 4-5 times before I could get it to work acceptably. Maybe that's to be expected, I don't know. I almost wish the blades weren't so sharp. The only thing I haven't tried is setting the blades flatter and then making them a littleโ€ฆ

Dishonest sale of goods on multitool

Good. the product itself looks ok. It's cheaply made, but then the price is cheap too. The metal base is brass - the crease could be a bit sharper but then you remove the corner of the board when using it so it's no big deal. The actual crap is clearly already used up for me. At the same time, I bought brand new chamfering blades, and it was immediately clear: First, most new tools don't have cemented shavings or sawdust. I can use it as I need it, but if I send used items as 'new' I will loseโ€ฆ

The smoothness is really good for multi tools

I do a lot of projects with planed, jointed and/or sawn wood. All these operations end up with a piece of wood with sharp edges that needs to be cleaned. A rounded chisel will do, but takes a long time to set up. It can also be difficult with smaller pieces. While the Slickplane requires a lot of tweaking when you first get your hands on it, it pays off with the time invested and the right setup. I bought this pup 5 years ago and haven't changed the settings since. Rounding the edge is so quick

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Mostly good but...

Good tool with some limitations

If you plan to use this tool right out of the box and are not interested in a tedious setup, this product may not be for you. If you can take the time to "learn" the block and how it works, and take the time to play around with it until it's right, it does its job well. With some materials it is better to pull the tool than to push it. Side set screws work with wood carvings --- not a problem if you know that and don't over tighten them (applying paraffin wax to the threads might help as someโ€ฆ
