This was the automatic switching system that many sharpeners use. The removable plastic container has a small plastic rise. This X-Acto electric pencil sharpener was a good buy. Bought to replace another X-Acto (model 1800) pencil sharpener that lasted about three years. We use it in our house but it gets used quite a bit as we have three young children. After about six months this sharpener is holding up well.
