They recommend using Propylene Glycol as the water can easily contain bacteria that will ruin your entire collection. This is a great way to convey the humidity in your humidor. I have a small shoebox size Thompson Cigar. I think I fill it out every 2-3 months, including a check-up once a week. Definitely recommend. The black grid is a bit tricky to put on, but luckily I don't have to fill it in too often. The grid is good, if you hit it nothing falls out.

Works well. Humidity is kept at 68-69%, but I usually keep 2 packs of Boeveda in my humidor as well. After filling with 100% distilled water I noticed that the crystals on the outside of the packaging had puffed up and lifted the top of the vent. You may want to fill about 1/8 to 1/4 of the crystals kept in reserve first and add a little after the first fill if needed. I bought these to provide humidification in several fridges to deal with overflowing cigars from the humidor cabinet. In each of the 3 coolers I have this 4 ounce can of Xikar combined with a Xikar cigar humidifier (for a 250 cigar humidor) with a magnetic humidifier.
