Damn Good - Leatherworking

Awesome Splinter. I would say almost identical to the Tandy Pro version but a little cheaper. I've split hundreds of strands, the blade is still razor sharp. Very easy to use and control the cutting depth. Definitely recommend

Pros
  • Done
Cons
  • No Insurance

That will do. for now.

It took me a while to figure out how to get this thing working properly. The instructions were clearly missing. It still doesn't fit. It still sometimes digs deeper than it should and ruins the skin, but it's better than nothing. I can't afford any better than that. Not complete rubbish as I first thought. I might give him 3.5 runs but never 4.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

No roller bearings, AVOID rubbish

Not what was shown in the picture. Came with no stock on the lead, wouldn't work. Either KK ZERO, or reset the old model. I totally agree that Oborne is overpriced in the US and yes it will work if done right. Mine came with a custom ribbon that was opened, wrong/incomplete bin, returned and credited.

Pros
  • Adjustable slice thickness
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Works well, cuts easily, quality product.

For a hand skewer, this machine cuts leather very well. The blade is sharp enough from the factory and can be easily removed for quick sharpening. The skiver is well assembled with quality components and is not coated with preservative grease. The thickness of the blade is 10 mm, and its mass is enough for work. It is possible to trim the skin to a thickness of less than 1mm, around 0.5mm. The ability to cut leather is entirely dependent on the sharpness of the blade. Who cares if it's made in…

Pros
  • Materials: Stainless steel, strong, durable material
Cons
  • large and bulky

Quality skiving at an affordable price

Split leather available. With the price of leather. I buy a leather saddle skirt that is thicker than I really need. This allows me to make leather thinner for belts etc. The gap width is 6 inches and needs to be fixed really securely. I split 4" and 5" wide cartridge belts quickly and accurately. Try this with a small skiver. The clerk at my local leather shop told me their cleaver wasn't very good for that. They also cost about 500.00. At the price I decided to risk it. I saved over 300.00…

Pros
  • This leather skiving machine is handmade, you need to lift the skiving material manually, suitable for vegetable tanned leather.
Cons
  • Uncertain
