Description of YaeTek Wedges Feather Concrete Splitter

.Used to split the hard stone, rock, granite, marble, concrete. Color: as shown in pic, Specifications Diameter 9/16"(14mm),(Use 1/2" hammer bits can be).Size: 14 x 100mm/0.55 x 3.9 inch. The concept of these devices is that they split rocks by applying pressure from the inside going out. These wedges are small but can exert an amazing amount of power. High-quality steel, heat treatment process, High hardness, toughness. Attention: Only drill to the depth of the feathers (shims). Any deeper may lead to inconsistent cleaving or difficultly even cleaving the rock. If the holes are too deep the best you can expect is a crooked, uneven break. All feathers and wedges work best when the holes for each are evenly spaced and drilled to the same depth. This will give you the cleanest, most precise break.

Essential for stone removal

They do exactly what you expect them to, break big rocks, although they may not be exactly what you expect them to be. My wife hates the stones in front of our house. They're too big for me to move alone, so it's best to break them down into smaller bricks. I got a puncher and used them. Advice for beginners: pay attention to your stone, try to see or understand how it can break. I drilled the holes and it cracked the other way, which is fine with me, but maybe I had to drill fewer holes.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Unreliable

This set didn't work for us.

We wanted to remove a rock about 3 feet by 3 feet from the backyard so I bought this kit. We drilled holes off center in a straight line (not to get too ambitious too easily) and placed a series of springs/wedges. We scored each wedge as indicated. they just got stuck. End. One tip was badly bent and we couldn't get most of the wedges out. After that we borrowed a jackhammer which did the job. For us it was money wasted as we do this type of work all the time.

Do you want to break stones? in hand tools

A pile of huge boulders collapsed in my yard - it was a waterfall. There was no access for large devices and we had to get them out of there. I didn't know such wonderful little things existed until I watched some videos of huge rocks being smashed. It really works! I wouldn't believe it, but after breaking about 15 huge rocks into smaller rocks that could then be moved around, I believe and could kiss the person who invented them. That was the answer to my problem with Rock. Just a note: this…

Good quality wedges

These wedges worked great. Make sure you drill the holes deep enough. I made the mistake of only drilling them about 3 inches the first time to allow the splines to fit. It did not work. You will need to drill holes about 5 inches deep to allow the wedge to be hammered behind the wedges or the wedge will hit the bottom of the hole and not work properly. Once I understood that, the stone broke easily. The steel was strong and didn't bend, the strips held, remember you didn't hit them, just tap…

Good price for a set of 7, solid, well built, did the job.

I bought this set to pair with a masonry bit to break up a 6 foot long and 4 foot high boulder in the middle of my lawn. It's hard work, but I'm going forward with confidence. It's tricky because instead of being off the ground, only the top of the boulder is visible, so instead of removing the whole thing, I knock off the top and just cover it with about an 8 inch layer of clay when I'm at it finished. O-rings are built for tough use, but they can easily break after a few accidental hits, so…

Pros
  • Masonry Chisel
Cons
  • Big and Bulky

Now I split the second board with these wedges. Board number one is about five feet long and 27" high. Slab number two was over six feet long and about a foot high. Both were about three inches thick. Both stones had the results exactly as expected. If I had something to criticize, the wedges are not very precise and technically inaccurate for this application. Of the two sets (14 shims), the thickness varies from shim to shim by up to 1/8". In order to crush rock, the pressure exerted by the…

It works with hand tools

Although I've never split rocks with one hand or seen them split rocks before, it works. The hardest part of the job is drilling the holes. Through trial and error, I was able to drill holes (3"-4" OC) with Bosch (HC5020) 5/8" SDS MAX (or Milwaukee) drill bits to a depth of 4" (min) with a DeWalt combo Impact Drill with 50ft 12AWG Ext. Cable with GFI Socket. To cool, lubricate, and clean your drill bit (and prolong its life), use a garden hose with some water running very slowly into the drill…
