I ordered a size up from my child's clothing size and it fits my 5 year old just right. Probably mostly in the way it hugs the torso, it just fits and it's not particularly thick at all. As he's kinda perfect for him now instead of being big and then living another year it's fine and he'll still work for us for him and then for subsequent children.
