Decent chain for the price

I don't really trust the main link. It's also a great smooth chain and if I have a problem with it after a weekend ride I get rid of the main chain and just separate the link with a chain breaker. I will update the rating to 5 stars after the weekend if it survives the abuse.

Accident, breakdown after less than 300 miles.

The chain broke, that's the last thing a cyclist wants! The side plates have come loose from the connecting bolt. This chain only lasted about 300 miles. I am a male cyclist and weigh 185 pounds. This is a high end mountain bike and I usually ride the chain until it stretches to the limit. This failure was catastrophic and instantaneous, without warning.

Wears out prematurely

Similar to the KMS x9.99 chain, only with the "FSC” mark instead of "KMC”. Even uses an identical looking main link. Supplied in a plastic blister pack. Good price. *** 3 month update *** Had to downgrade from 5 stars to 2 because the chain was stretching faster than I expected. I have always used KMC chains in the past and have been for about 6 months on average. This reached its limits in less than 3 months under the same driving conditions.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

I had to loosen a few stuck links

A few links got stuck causing cracks. Not sure if I just missed it out of the box or if some dirt got in during the ride. I was able to loosen them with some lube and some prying and it's been fine ever since. A little extra info: I tried this new chain on a 4 year old cassette and it jumped like crazy. I spent about $15 on a new cartridge and aside from the stuck links it was great. This is probably obvious to experienced cyclists, but cassettes and chains wear out at the same rate, and trying

Losing Shine - Parts & Components

The FSC90 gold chain is showroom worthy to begin with. The connections and bushings were tight and the car ran smoothly and shifted well. The connecting link was loose and deformed outwards, but held tight. The chain was in good condition, regularly cleaned and lubricated. After 5 months and 900 miles, the gold plating showed signs of wear. After 1100 miles the chain is still smooth and worn (stretched) but within tolerance. It just lost its luster and no longer shimmered brightly. Looks like a

Sparingly, but maybe stretching early?

Well I bought it about a year ago and my bike was pretty noisy for a while. I ride about 70% mountain trails and 30% hardtop, which is pretty aggressive for an old bastard. I've driven about 1000 miles since I bought the chain, but it's been noisy for quite some time. Finally measured the stretch today and there was about full link stretch at 25 links compared to the other chain, so the replacement point was long gone (my bad one). Switched to the previous not so stretched chain and the…
