This is a mechanical switch. It worked a few feet from a TV with multiple tuners, but the signal from the dish (after going through a multi-switch) was not strong enough to power multiple satellite receivers from the basement (over 100 feet).

Commercial quality and after installation the signal strength at the DirecTV receiver was the same as before installation. Very low-loss device! The cable connectors have rubber grommets to protect the connection. I would still recommend a layer of good quality tape to protect the seals from the sun if installed where they are not weatherproof.

This switch worked well to solve my satellite problems without having to call Directv for service. They were here a few months ago and diagnosed the problem after a thunderstorm. Well it was blocked again but this time I knew what to look for and this part was just what I needed.

Having bought another TV I have exceeded the number of cables available for my Directv antenna. I won't go into the difference between a multiswitch and a splitter, but I do know that the multiswitch was my choice to allow me to split my satellite signal. Black rubber tabs at the end of each pin allow the coaxial cable to connect to the pin forming a seal. I don't know if it's waterproof, but it's definitely dust and water resistant.
