Hey Drive Strips with Minimal Torque

I never write negative reviews but hopefully someone will avoid wasting time and money after reading this. I didn't even get to the rail install yet, I was still assembling the bolt and geared nut into the rail. Measured exactly as instructions depicted. The geared nut bound up on itself and the hex drive stripped immediately. I finally got it taken back apart and checked measurements, tried again with the other geared nut in the package and the same thing happened. I can't imagine if I had…

Pros
  • ‎13.960
Cons
  • May not be compatible with all types of nails or screws

Easy to install and holds tight

These Zipbolt slipbolts were easy to install and hold the railing tightly. I highly recommend the use of a Forstner drill for making the holes into the railing and newells. The Zipbolt installation guide was quite helpful drilling the holes

Pros
  • Made my stair remodel go so much easier and makes for a strong, tight connection.
Cons
  • Limited instructions for installation

Gotta Have It in my review

I had an angled handrail to install with the upper end terminating on a wall and the lower end terminating on a newel post. For the lower end I used an angled Zipbolt rail bolt. Without this Angled Slipfix rail bolt on the upper end I would have never gotten the system together. The Zipbolt system worked exactly as advertised, was easy to install and it worked, allowing me to complete my installation. Most definitely worth the purchase.

Pros
  • Building Supplies
Cons
  • May not be easy to find replacement parts

Used on my stair rehab. Certainly is a solid .

Used on my stair rehab. Certainly is a solid connection and much stronger than the toe nailed brads the house flipper had on the last railing. I used it on a craftsman style railing that was only a little over 2" thick, not a "normal"'profile as indicated in the instructions. Pay attention to how it's supposed to be installed and you won't have any issues.

Pros
  • Building Materials
Cons
  • May not be as secure as other methods of connecting handrails to newel posts

Great in theory, but the geared nut is HORRIBLE

In theory these are great! In reality no so much. Came across these on youtube and ordered them here on amazon.Measuring and drilling was simple. Although i would not follow the directions exactly. I would honestly move the 1" hole 1/4" closer to the end of the rail. The angled bolt and hook plate design is fantastic and works extremely well. The gear driven nut it where this item FAILS. The gear driven nut is HORRIBLE. It is a total pain to get caught, it binds then trying to tighten and i was

Pros
  • it's nice that the rail just slides on and can be easily tightened
Cons
  • Could be prone to rust or corrosion if not properly maintained

Not at all secure: my feedback

The idea is great BUT it does not give a since of security no matter how tight you make adjustmemnt. You have to figure out how to actually bolt it to the stud in the wall because you may not be able to break it loose the hand rail has way to much wiggle to provide a since of security. and if you shake an lift up it will come off column since there is no locking pin in place.

Pros
  • Stairs
Cons
  • May require additional hardware or tools for installation

Great product for my opinion

Compared to traditional rail bolts these are much simpler to use. I had 12 railings to install so I used a combo of all the zipbolt products. These and the angled ones where my favorite for easiest to use. You don't have to be as exact with these ones as the angled railbolt. The drive bit does work, but can be a real pain to get it to catch especially if you weren't 100% accurate on your drilling into the rail. I used a flexible drill bit attachment in my drill to make the angle manageable…

Pros
  • ‎5 x 3 x 1 inches
Cons
  • Could be challenging to drill pilot holes at the exact angle needed
