This item was very difficult to build due to the following reasons.1. The pre-drilled holes did not line up with the wood sections.2. Some of the required screws were missing.3. Directions were unclear.4. The wood is very weak and splits easily so screws cannot work. I have returned the item for a refund. I paid $80 for this item but only received $65. for a return. I think you pay for what you get, but you don't always get what you pay for.

Great with a little extra effort!

This is the perfect home for our Russian Tortoise! I only gave 4 stars because the wood was unfinished (a little rough) and some of the pre-drilled holes didn't line up properly either. Anyway, I sanded it down and sealed it with a non-toxic, eco-friendly wood sealer. I then tiled the bottom and sides with peel and stick tiles and added aquarium paper with a garden scene attached with double sided tape. I also added a mesh window to the lid to keep bugs and small toys out (we have 2 girls with…

good house Strong odor when new.

High Quality Materials. Ease of installation. Nice home for our new Russian tortoise. She instinctively knows that she must go to a dark "room" to sleep. We put a big wooden skin in that little side, but she never uses it because she feels safe there. When you first open the packaging, there is a very strong smell of paint. I'm guessing it could just be the strong wood smell, but it was so strong we didn't put the turtle in right away for fear the fumes might damage it. Suggest bringing him…

Beautiful wooden house

This is a well made turtle house. It took some time to assemble as there are so many parts included. You need a screwdriver and some muscle power. Not all details are exactly the same. At least not us. The latches on the top and bottom didn't quite match. However, it is flexible enough to move enough to snap into place. I like the wooden part of the habitat, not the glass part like in the aquarium we had. It has a 'private' sleeping area and a 'public' viewing area where the UV and heat lamp…

sweet home. Suitable for reptiles and amphibians

Zoo Med Turtle House is the largest aviary on the market and that alone deserves a star. In addition, it is made of wood - the body of choice when keeping turtles indoors. Assembly was easy and took me maybe half an hour. The only thing that confuses me is the quality of the tree itself. It is made from poor quality pressed wood with questionable moisture repellency. To fix this I used the Tall Earth Eco-Safe wood treatment. I need to add some more to the body as the treatment is still…

Good buy Reptile and amphibian overalls

I bought a new cage for our little cold-blooded turtle. Outside the racket, you must follow the assembly instructions carefully, otherwise the parts will not fit. While some pieces are longer than they should be, I took some photos of the length variation. In general, this is not a big problem, but it would be better if the dimensions were accurate. As other posters have pointed out, the wood is cheap and some of the wood can splinter. Again, this isn't a huge problem in itself, unless it's a…

Complex assembly for terrariums

I took a young red-footed turtle that was kept outside. I live in an apartment so I needed something to place it inside. It's still fairly small, so it should last a few years. I also like that I can expand it by adding another habitat later if I want. It's fairly roomy, and the doors and latches are light and comfortable. The main disadvantage I see concerns the assembly. Some pieces have pre-drilled holes and some don't, so there's nothing to guide or make screwing the two pieces together…
