Instead it sits in the mat and when you pick up the mat it runs down the sides all over the place. Qualitatively in no way inferior to the original carpet included in the kit. I bought this replacement pad for my home potty to have a spare after I've cleaned and allowed the original to dry. It fits perfectly in the original pot. It came rolled up so I had to lay it flat to straighten it. I will say it seems a bit thicker than the original but I think it's good as I'm sure my pup will wear it down over time. I recommended these artificial grass mats because they helped us teach our youngest dog to confine her outdoor potty to two and two areas on our patio. Our other indoor trained dogs have chosen to follow suit, so these pads are used many times a day.
