Poor quality tools and equipment

This product sucks! Received it today and two dies broke while repairing ONE brake line. What was worth keeping in this set was a pipe cutter and pipe bender. Otherwise this kit was useless.

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • Empty

git er dun for brake tools

Started using the kit five minutes after the postman brought it. As I expected. Worked like a champ. For light to medium loads, this set will get the job done. Just don't expect curves to exceed 90 degrees.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Good but not great

Do not buy if you plan to use more than ten times.

Product does not meet standards. The thread on the main die broke within 20 flares. The molded handle is also subject to plastic deformation. Tool components fail prior to flaring and bending 3/8 pipe. Very sad. Do not buy, see attached photos

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • No performance

Do not use with steel pipes!

Instructions for use included for manual tube bender only. I had to watch a video on You Tube to figure out how to make a flash. The highlights created by this tool appear normal, but not very impressive. My biggest problem is related to the supplied bender. The description implies that this tool is for working with steel pipe, but every time I try to bend a 3/8 inch diameter steel pipe that I use to make fuel lines, I get a kink! happy with this purchase.

OK but need help holding the pipe

I was able to flare the pipe I was working with although the clamp allows it to slide down a bit. Putting the clamp in a vise gives better control, but I'm still trying to figure out how to hold the pipe securely so the pipe stays in place when you tighten the flared flange. This seems to be the main problem with most of these flare kits. It's probably a good idea to work with a vice from the start. Otherwise you must be willing to practice and sacrifice the whistle as you will have to cut off…

Excellent customer service and a good practical tool

I'll try to be brief. Was not familiar with ATD tools. Bought for brakes. The instructions for use were a bit confusing at first, but when I re-read them, they were very brief. There was a problem with one of the matrices. I had to do about 12 bubble bursts. 10 of them successfully done. I thought I had the job done. Then I had to do 2 more flashes for the invisible work. My bell came out crooked even though I didn't prepare the whistle properly, so I made another one with the same result. It…

ATD Tools 5478 tube flare set is poorly made

I bought this kit to make mild steel ISO flares and copper alloy brake lines. My old flare kits could do single and double flashes but not bubble flashes. Unfortunately, the molding tools in this set are made of steel so soft that the first bubble would burst them, leaving a rough surface that would never seal. I then tried using this ATD set to make single and double flares in mild steel tubing but also got poor results. The V-shaped anvil that forms the interior of the bell is mild steel and…
