After the first application, the familiar smell of a moldy old sponge set in, which gradually became unbearable after a few days. I've used many Scotch-Brite All Surface (Blue) sponges over the years and they work well for a while and then start to wear out. I've been looking for something longer and it looks like they will, although I've only been using them for about a month so I'll see how they hold up. But I can say that the cleaning side is different than the bullet-bright, it's not a "wire" like theirs, it's a solid piece of material that doesn't tear or tear, but it doesn't scratch like theirs. I bought these sponges thinking they were the same as all the other sponges I buy and I try SO hard to stay clean (smell) and am End up washing dishes all the time and then throwing them away after a short while. It really is AWESOME! I had no expectations for these sponges because I rinse/wring/dry my sponges VERY hard with cold water and make sure there is no soap left in them to prevent the bad smell they inevitably get.
