Description of πŸ€– DAOKI 5Pcs PIR IR Module HC-SR501: Efficient Infrared PIR Motion Detector for Raspberry Pi Kits with Dupont Cable

These are adjustable motion sensors, which have small helpful potentiometers/pots on board to adjust on-time and sensitivity. They work well and do not need a library to run. The PIR sensors have a great range of detection and are easy to connect. Great addition to an Arduino projects. Nice little infrared sensor modules for general motion detection of up to 15 feet and almost never give a false alarm. PIR motion sensors have the jumper breakout for dual-mode operation (as pictured). Works with any SOC, MCU or can even work stand-alone to build quick-n-dirty motion-activated lights, cameras or w/e. Passive infrared detector (PID) worked perfect for automatic light with MQTT and Lua and esp8266 WIfii set up with a home assistant hub.

Rubbish don't waste your time.

Poor quality. Inconsistent didn't always work when I went straight to the sensor. I definitely cannot rely on this sensor being used in my emergency circuits. Don't waste your time and money on this.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Very sensitive and not well shielded from EMI.

This PIR is extremely sensitive and susceptible to interference from the RPi 3B+ it is connected to. Had to move the PIR about 2ft away from the RPi or you would get a lot of false positives. The device is protected against RF and electromagnetic interference, and false alarms have disappeared.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • I will add later

All you need is a current specification from the manufacturer.

This compact peer module is ideal for a physical detection, alarm and interaction system I am building for a server room. I'm currently using it on 5V. It would be nice to have a datasheet so I can determine the effect of changing the voltage and current applied to the module. I've posted an image of an Arduino sketch that I use to determine how long the output pin stays high after motion is detected. If you see a picture you can use the code. Change the PIN to the one you use.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Unreliable
