I was a bit hesitant as they are 1/2 inch smaller than what I usually buy but I'm glad I listened to all the positive reviews I read. Turns out the coating is strong enough to keep grease or anything from seeping through. The diameter is slightly smaller because they have a shallow depth, making them easier to eat and more durable. I am VERY glad I discovered these paper plates and will never buy another one.

We use these plates to feed our seven half-ferrel cats, who live and eat outside (they have a spacious cathouse unless it rains). I asked the manufacturer about the coating and they told me it was a clay coating on one side so they wouldn't get wet. That's great because it means we can toss them in our green compost bins (even if there's some food left in there, we live in Sonoma County, you'll need to check if your area offers this). I'm so happy to have found an affordable compostable feeding

In the shrinking market for household products that are actually made in the USA, I always try to look a little harder to see if I can rate a US made product as they usually have an offer chain agility and maybe something stronger. In most cases, I'm willing to pay an extra fee for this. These slabs are unusual in that they meet my expectations in terms of handling and durability as well as sustainability in the supply chain.
