Excellent book!

This is a great Guernsey/Gansy knitting guide! My biggest objection is that most of the patterns are knitted in dark yarn, making them harder to see. I understand this was one of the traditional colors (probably the main color) but a lighter yarn would have made the design MUCH more eye-catching.

Pros
  • Trial for one year
Cons
  • Some mistakes

Historical knitting in the Netherlands

If you love history and knitting, you will love this book. While not for novice knitters, they have enough meat for the average to experienced knitter of a traditional gansey sweater for all ages from toddlers to adults. My husband is trying to figure out which design he likes best - oh oh!

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Only available in white

But it's okay. . .

I was looking forward to this book but read some mediocre reviews about it and have to agree with them. The English translation from Dutch was poor, apparently made in the Netherlands, while it probably would have been better done by someone whose native language was English. The sentence structure was at times awkward, contradictory - in some places the author seemed to believe the myth that fishermen's hometowns could be identified by the stitch patterns on their sweaters, and in other places

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Not sure
