I bought this kit to thread the end of a solid 3/4" guide steel rod (not hollow). It really worked. But when I tried to use a hex nut on it I couldn't find one that would fit. After many phone calls I finally got someone who explained to me what MPT stands for, what is printed on each dye. THIS IS A SANITARY KIT and was never intended as a machine dye. I give it this credit because when a lot of oil was used there were actually 2 full inches of threads on the end of this solid steel rod. I'm…

Do not buy - cut the NPT threads but not deep enough for the female fitting to screw on

I only had a 1/2" brass pipe that I needed to cut so I decided Going for a softer metal and buying 2 different sets of ratchet dies, I was able to get the job done. No, none of them were threaded deep enough (I ended up testing it on 3 ends of brass tubing with 2 female connectors). The cut ones Threads came out clean and properly spaced, but they just weren't deep enough. And each 1/2" punch from the sets gave the same results. Turns out the $50 Goflame and Goplus ratchet sets are identical…

The Little Tool That Couldn't

Kudos to anyone who got a tool that actually worked for them because I really wanted that tool to do its job. Unfortunately the tool was unable to tap a usable 1/2 NPT thread in terms of the correct diameter and taper. I tried TWO tools, the original and a replacement, before I gave up. The first tool cut a thread that only allowed 1/2 turn of the thread to engage. The second tool improved, but still only cut a cone that allowed 1 1/4 threads, which is far from the NPT spec and insufficient to…
