Good source of information, but not for beginners

2003 Hyundai Elantra GLS. There was trouble finding this book anywhere other than the internet. I'm glad I went ahead and bought it here. It was wonderful in repairing oil leaks. However, it is written like a textbook, which makes it difficult to understand at times.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Useless features

Not what was promised

While the ad and cover promise an updated version that covers 2010 models, there are big things about my 2009 that don't even get mentioned: electric steering, transmission upgrades, and the like. I sent the book back to the seller who accepted the return very quickly. At least the seller kept his promise.

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Years need updating or correcting

This was advertised for 1996-2010 Hyundai Elantra models and the image shows this is for 1996-2006 models. but actually i got the instructions. for 1996-2001 models and my car is 2002 so this book was a waste of money. Some of the book is similar, but the renovation I needed this book for was very different. I wish I could return it.

Pros
  • Same as everything before
Cons
  • Ratio Kit

Easy to understand manual

Like all Haynes manuals, the weekend mechanics are easy to understand. I used to have a Haynes manual for the Ford Tempo which I referred to a lot when I had this car. Hyundai's manual seems to go in the same direction, except advances in technology have made it necessary to have another trip computer manual in addition to this manual, especially if you're working on the engine.

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons
  • There are downsides

A very useful book: Software

I have used this book several times for minor repairs and recommendations for going to the store. I'm not much of a handyman but this helped for a TPS issue I was having, installing a stereo and knowing things like a fuel pump in a gas tank so the mechanic wouldn't lie when they say it's a lot of work is. The book speaks of two or three Elantra models, so sometimes I read together and it has a different model than my photo, but the text is correct; just makes it a little harder without theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Looking forward to it
Cons
  • The long wait

Does the job pretty well

This manual contains enough information to help me replace the head gasket on my '99 Elantra. This guide isn't detailed enough to tell you which wrench you need for which screw ;) but it gives you step-by-step instructions on how to get the job done. I suggest you have a pen and paper with you and write down any additional steps or details not listed in the book (and there are one or two) as you would in ANY repair manual. There were a few flaws in what should have been on my car's engine (asโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Not so good in software

I've used Haynes manuals on about 6 vehicles. Everything is very detailed and informative. I don't know what happened to this particular guide. Firstly, the paper used reminds me of newspaper and is very fragile! You usually use one of these when working on a car. You know, greasy hands and stuff. That doesn't sit well with this newspaper. So be careful. Any chemical will ruin the book! You need to go back to better paper. The images are very difficult to interpret and most of the imagesโ€ฆ
