I've been shaving with the classic Gillette adjustable razor for decades, but it's finally time to change it up. I didn't go for the adjustable Merkur version as the head is obviously too big for small parts, but again this wasn't easy to adjust, it felt very soft initially (and no adjustable settings to fall back on). But I kept going until I finally realized that the new Mercury wasn't aggressive enough to give me a good shave, going through my hair in one pass as before but safe enough to do

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent

  • No instructions

Okay ladies I'm talking to you. It's not just for boys anymore. I will not pay hard earned money for absurdly expensive pieces of plastic, stupid strips of fat with single, double, triple or quadruple semi-sharp blades made in Vietnam, Taiwan, China, Mexico or any other third world country! I hate shaving! Unlike many women, I have to shave every day, otherwise I would have to lug a trimmer and hair dryer to the bathroom. I have long legs and it is very difficult to shave. I can easily go…

You look great grandpa!

I've wanted one of these safety razors for a long time. Decided to buy one for Christmas. I took the razor apart and found it durable and well made. There were no burrs, porosity or uncleaned thread chipping as demonstrated in less flattering reviews. My first shave was with the included blade, Bigelow shaving cream (the one in the tube) and a badger hair shaving brush. I was a bit shy with it at first but the thing is, this thing feels natural and you just know when the angle is right. I still

Not what I expected

After reading many reviews about the close shave I can get with a razor, in particular the open shave I can get with disposable razors is still better than with this shaver. However, the overall experience of scraping rough skin on a foggy morning is better with a Merkur razor. It takes longer, more chance of cutting your neck, but I appreciate the weight and the feel. I also found the general directions for using this razor to be odd. I don't think some of the people who made these videos…

Merkur 25c - Men's

I've been using a Merkur 34c closed comb for 6 months, perfecting my technique and forgetting 40 years of shaving with different iterations of cartridge razors. During the same period I have also used several well-regarded and respected shaving creams and soaps. I ordered a 25c open comb to see if I could shave better, although the 34c did a great job compared to my old cartridge razors. After my usual routine, I lather and apply to face with a Parker brush. For the first few strokes with the…

Good open comb alternative to grinder

This is a less expensive alternative for those wanting to try an open comb razor. I personally don't find it that aggressive. But I'm an advanced double edge user. I've been using double-edged razors since the 1960s. I think I paid $27 for change while the R41 grinder is $44. However, I have found that mill blades work well for me; like the Wilkinson sword. Part of using a double-edged razor is finding one that works well for you as a person, and; which blade works well in your particular…

An open comb is better.

This is my second Merkur DE shaver and I'm glad I bought it. I wasn't sure about the 3 piece design (just because I've had the 2 piece for a while) but I have to say I like it a lot more than the 2 piece. I bought this model for 2 reasons. I wanted a longer razor for more comfort and control (I broke my arm a long time ago so it sometimes cramps) and I was also hoping that the open comb design would be a slightly more aggressive shave. An open comb doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be a…
