Bought for mother with dementia

I am very happy with this product. I needed a solution so my mom could continue watching her favorite movies without using the remote control which had become too confusing for her. We often found her staring at a blank TV screen because she pressed the wrong button on the remote control. This product is small and extremely easy to set up/manage. The looping feature was critical to what I needed.* I saved 20 of my mom's favorite movies to a memory card.* Set the Micca Speck to repeat everything

DISCONNECT FROM THE EXCUSES! DO NOT BUY THIS!

Do not buy. Typical of many Chinese products, they look fantastic and often work very well - for a while. Then they die on cue. This prompt usually appears IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE RETURN WINDOW EXPIRES. Pretty clever technique actually to be able to make a product that crashes right after closing the returns window. In the case of this particular beast, SETUP pops up all of a sudden and constantly when I try to play a video. Disconnected, rebooted, all to no avail. If it were heavy enough it…

Choose your USB port for your external hard drive carefully!

Good media player. But be careful! Problems may occur when using this player with a sealed external 2.5" hard drive connected via USB, especially when using WD drives with a built-in flash feature called INTELLIPARK. Micca will play the movie normally as long as you pause it. After a pause of about 8 seconds, the player returns to the home screen you see when you turn on the player for the first time. You must then watch the movies and rewind to the paused scene to resume the movie. This is not

The old (original) model was perfect, this new one is scrap

This review has been prepared for a long time. We had two of these in our shop in our office. One of the originals and this model. Personally, I still own one of the original models. Since we got this "new" device, we can't watch anything fully without it crashing, freezing, or just changing files to its own. It's so annoying. It doesn't matter how many breaks it has between uses, it behaves like it's been running non-stop for a year. But the old blocks, man, I couldn't praise them more! I was…

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • There are new competitors

I liked the look and size of this unit. The menu opens quickly when switched on. The "Explore" option to see what's connected to media cards and browsing is very good. Unfortunately, in my case, this device is not compatible with my Pioneer audio amplifier with HDMI switch. My satellite receiver, Raspberry Pi 2 with Kodi, and my Revain Firestick ALL go through a Pioneer amp. I was able to get a nice clear picture but there was no sound through the switch. I went into the settings and turned off

Pros
  • Hands-free mode
Cons
  • No power

Won't play 85-90% of video files on USB hard drive.

This device was very expensive and cheap so I was happy to be able to take a USB hard drive with me on holiday that we could use to watch videos on any TV in any hotel. Well that was a great idea, but the Micca Speck G2 didn't play 85-90% of the MKV files I had on my hard drive; I got a file read error on each of them when trying to play them. Two days after contacting Micca support, they called me back and asked me to send them some video files. After another 2 days they said the files…

External hard drives work but need to be configured properly

August 25, 2018 - I had some problems with this media player and other similar ones with the same chipset, but I found a solution from the manufacturer. You must use them with drives configured for Master Boot Record (MBR), not the newer GPT (GUI Partition Table). For this reason, only drives up to 2 TB are read. MBR does not support more than 2TB. I thought it was the drive brand. Toshiba worked, but Western Digital didn't. I then went into the disk manager and found that the configuration…

A robust standard with several key weaknesses.

tl;dr - Truly a standard of professional video installations. A few flaws keep it from getting 5 stars but these players are still my favorite. First the PROS: I work as an installer for a museum that specializes in video installations. I'm also a video artist. I have a lot of experience both installing videos and troubleshooting various media players. I can say with confidence that this is the best on the market right now. A HUGE reason is the seamless loop. Other media players play a…

NOT PERFECT: Portable Audio & Video

Setup was very easy, just plug and play. After an hour of use, the device only warmed up slightly. and a 2 TB hard drive (NTFS). Played the latest video codec (the one that fast forwards older MPs). Played video files up to 1.5 GB (I don't have more). Frame by frame in FF (very rough, minus). The remote control must be pointed directly at the device, but works at a distance. It responds very quickly to remote control inputs. The final remote control will have buttons with a pleasant It has a…
