New Balance changed the shoes, now it's a piece of junk

New Balance modifying the legendary 574, and not for the better. The biggest change is the removal of the padded tongue and the replacement of an unlined tongue that now digs into the top of the foot. Destroying a product that has been in production for years is not the best way to do business. New Balance should be ashamed. I'm sending the shoes back. Unfortunately I can't give 0 stars.

Pros
  • Wear it with everything: In its true form, the New Balance 574v2 can be worn with everything from jeans and a t-shirt to sweatpants and a tank top. These casual shoes can add sportiness to your more elegant look or show your style when you look casual.
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Not my idea of New Balance shoes

I have several pairs of New Balance shoes. They are all comfortable, well padded, fit well and are well made. Received a pair of these 574's today and they are nothing like the others I've bought. These shoes look good from the start, but that's about it. They are about half a size smaller than others I have, even if you think they are all a size 10. There is no padding, the sides of the shoes appear to be cardboard. Unfortunately, if you buy these expecting that signature New Balance comfort…

NB 574 people are kind of like the people who follow the Grateful Dead.

I buy at least two pairs a year. For me they are really the perfect running shoe, I don't have to say more about them. New Balance 574 is kind of a cult band like Grateful Dead where people who really like Grateful Dead are obsessed with them. The New Balance 574 people are like that, we tend to really think about these shoes and find that all the others just don't fit. They feel great, look great and are durable. A few of them typically last 6-8 months of heavy daily use. The best sneakers in…

Pros
  • Comfortable Construction: These shoes are designed with your comfort in mind. They have a lightweight upper to keep your foot from cramping and a cushioned foam heel for a cloudy feel. The rubber outsole is designed to last.
Cons
  • Useless features

The New Balance 574 was a great evening shoe, nothing more! I put a photo of my classic burgundy New Balance 574 right (10 years old!) in the box and sent it back straight away. Note the thick suede on the shoe on the right, and the new shoe is made of thin faux suede, is matte in color and looks like it was nicked from a bowling alley. Look at the picture on the left and you can visually see that it is sooooo small! When my old 574s were new they looked so pretty I could wear them to a casual…

Pros
  • High Tech: These are not your typical lifestyle shoes. They have built-in technology for long-term wear. ENCAP midsole cushioning combines soft foam with a durable PU collar for all-day support.

Width NOT as advertised

I first ordered these shoes a few weeks ago and they seemed good for the price aside from the lack of tongue padding. What I liked about these shoes is that the short part of the synthetic leather covers the area where the end of the big toe is, which is covered by the mesh on many other tennis shoes. On some of my other sneakers, the mesh is torn at this point, which is supposed to prevent the design of this shoe. And now for the not so good stuff. I noted earlier that some reviewers…
