Description of ๐Ÿ”ง Effortless Brake Piston Removal with OTC 4799 Locking Pliers - A Must-Have Automotive Tool!

Specially designed locking pliers assist in the removal of brake caliper pistons during service or rebuild. Simply insert the uniquely shaped extensions on the pliers into the pistons then squeeze the handles on the pliers to lock them into place. Once clamped in place, simply pull the piston out of the caliper. For use with 5/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch diameter pistons. Durable materials ensure quality performance over the lifetime of the tool.

Do not buy! in Brake Tools

I used this tool to remove pistons from a Brembo GT1 4 piston caliper. On paper, this tool looks like a real one. The jaws fit into the plunger and you clamp it like an inverted vise. It also adjusts like a vise. So far, so good. That's the problem. The jaws don't really grip the plunger enough to pull it out. They could at least loosen the plunger by turning the plunger clockwise/counterclockwise. There just isn't enough leverage to pull the plunger out. He also "bougered" the inside of theโ€ฆ

  • Useful for more than it's intended purpose

Tiny thing of above average quality.

I had a unique situation, a 2006 Tundra with four 13WL pistons in each caliper. I have learned that you will not remove the piston with this tool or any other tool for that matter. You must force them out with short, controlled bursts of compressed air and wooden shims to absorb the massive force developed by just 20psi. Despite this, it was not possible to completely remove all the pistons at the same time, since the first to go through the seal would release air. With this tool I was able toโ€ฆ

But they worked. fits tools and equipment

They work. You pull out the pistons. But you can mess up the inside of the flask a bit. What isn't really a problem is the side of the piston that doesn't slide over the seal. But still. I didn't want to reuse some of the flasks after getting them out with these. So I bought a new set of pistons. Now if they had better grip and didn't mess up the pistons I would give them 5 stars. But I gave them 3 stars because if you get a good grip on the plunger they come out of the plunger as you twist and

waste of money! Use the grease gun method.

Not enough grip to do anything. A complete waste of money unless you fit a clean caliper/piston. Still, the best it can do is rotate the piston to align it (depending on your calipers if you need to align them by pad/angle - my Porsche 911 needs them in sync). Think of it like an inverted vise tool. But on the inner piston, it is simply impossible to remove a dirty piston with friction from age and dirt. save your money And of course it's a cheap product from China. If Vise-Grip releases aโ€ฆ

This remedy worked for me.

I like it. I use it on my Harley Street Glide 07: the tool arrived today with a decent delivery time. Upon arrival I thought the picture was a bit deceptive. This tool is smaller than I expected. But the picture was very accurate. I was dying to try this on my caliper pistons. They are small enough to be used on a Harley. I clamped them onto the first of eight pistons. After some trial and error, I took out the first piston. It was funny. The tool missed the piston once or twice. I pulled theโ€ฆ

A TOOL THAT LOOKS GREAT IN THEORY BUT IS NOT SUCCESSFUL.

I need to disassemble my TOKICO calipers. Using air or lubrication was not a viable option. (Once a piston comes out, the pressure disappears and no more pistons are removed). This tool looked pretty good. The grooved tabs on the ends of the inverted vise-style tool seemed like an epic idea. The problem was/was that the tool wasn't strong enough to do the job. You can pinch the pistons internally and possibly make them spin, but any pressure in the linear direction (towards the caliper/pistonโ€ฆ
