Great phone after hours of updates

Be prepared to spend a few, I mean a few HOURS updating the firmware on this phone. When it arrived I had to spend 3 hours on the phone with our VOIP provider as the phone had downloaded data, rebooted, configured, rebooted and downloaded more data. He didn't go from the current version to the latest, he had to do every single update. Once we did that we were able to set it up and it works great but the updates were painful!

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Can be broken

Great speakerphone for office conferencing

Best speakerphone I've ever used. Polycom raises the bar for office phone products. It's built like a tank and appears to have enough microphone sensors for a group of 10 to sit around a phone and participate in a conference call where everyone in the room can be heard. The PoE feature is also very useful as you don't have to worry about connecting power and Ethernet to your phone separately. You can always reduce the number of cables, it's worth it. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Are people still on the phone?

Works with our NEC sv8100 VoIP phone system. We connected this device to a Netgear 52-port PoE switch and it works great without a power adapter. It's a little tricky to set up (most VoIP phones are like that; they're basically little computers!), so we had to bring our phone technology to the table. The date and time is difficult to sync and will be reconfigured to sync to an internet clock that cannot be found. As soon as I set a different Internet Time Clock (NTP), they are immediately…

Pros
  • Good cause
Cons
  • Upgradeable

Polycom's classic speakerphone fits our needs perfectly. We needed something to support our cloud-based VOIP phone service and it works great. The display can be difficult to read at times, but you don't need to. We didn't have POE in any of our conference rooms, so we had to use iCreatin's POE injector, which works great and costs a lot less than what Polycom suggests you do. The configuration page works very well. The sound quality is great!

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Broken phone and poor seller support

I bought this phone a year ago just before moving to the office so I couldn't set it up when it arrived. When I came back (a year later) to set up the phone (out of the box) it wasn't working. I've spent endless hours troubleshooting my VoIP provider and network admin. Long story, the ethernet port on the phone was bad. I am contacting the seller (Teleconnect Direct) for a solution and have found nothing. I've had these phones before so this review isn't about the product (every product has a…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors

New? uh, no, it wasn't. And it was broken

I bought this phone and a PoE injector. The phone was on, but the ethernet port was not working. It is not possible to update or program or use the software on the phone if the ethernet port is bad. Unfortunately, as we were building a conference room, the item was already out of the return window when I unpacked it. and could not get a remedy from Revain or Prime Seller. It took me 2 months to work with Polycom to get an RMA to have this unit replaced under a 1 year manufacturer warranty. One…

Pros
  • There is something inside
Cons
  • Minor problems

I really wanted this to work as the price and form factor seemed right for what we wanted, but we just couldn't get it to work. We wanted this for a development team of 5 people. 4 worked in the office 12x12, 1 remotely. The remote worker spoke softly and was difficult to understand using the existing Polycom IP 7000, which we temporarily removed from our main conference room before getting the IP 5000. The IP 5000 rendered this person completely incomprehensible because the speaker was not…

Pros
  • Good looking
Cons
  • Some flaws

The venerable workhorse of the Polycom SoundStation IP 5000 has evolved over the last decade into the conference phone for IP telephony systems. This phone is solid, with thoughtful design features and excellent performance. The speaker is loud and clear, and the microphones are well positioned and pick up everyone talking around the 10-person conference table. The phone is powered via Power over Ethernet. If you don't have one, just order a cheap $10 PoE adapter. Anything you buy should work…

Works great on an 8ft boardroom table

We have this phone in the center of a 3.5ft x 8ft rectangular table in a 14ft x 18ft conference room. The speaker's sound quality is excellent, and the volume is high enough to be heard in a room full of noisy people. The phone picks up voices at normal volume levels very clearly from anywhere around the table, although people at the head of the table need to be careful not to lean too far back or turn away when speaking. Microphone pickup from people standing away from the table, especially at
