Neat radio with one big flaw.

Good sound, bass boost, multiple presets, AM/FM/WX, carrying handle, power adapter connected to radio, large volume control and NO-scan settings. THE SCREEN IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO READ (VERY LOW = Reason for 4 stars only.)

Radio Shack Lives On

The only thing missing are the stereo speakers, which of course add to the cost and size. Also, it's perfect for any place you want AM/FM and don't want to waste a lot of space. Mine is on the kitchen table and I listen to it at breakfast in the morning. The icing on the cake is the good reception.

Pros
  • is clear, even the old
Cons
  • The list is getting long.

Scan button doesn't work properly

I like the simple design with preset buttons. Average sound quality. I returned my first purchase because the scan button wasn't working properly. Same problem with the second radio. Seems to be a manufacturing defect with dual setting function and scan button. Do all radios have a faulty scan button? I left the second radio as I rarely used the scan button, didn't want to go through the return process and most likely the third radio would have the same issue.

  • Delivery was very fast

AM/FM radio with weather band

I've had this for a few months now and it usually works very well. The AM sensitivity is not outstanding. Sometimes the FM band drops out and it looks like it's not tuned properly. And when he is like that, he seems sensitive to my position on the radio. When I approach him, it sounds good, but when I move two meters away from him, he seems annoyed. This is difficult to handle with the digital tuning mechanism. When I slap the AM band and back to FM it seems to recover.

Good weather/emergency radio for everyday use!

Radio Shack which one might expect as Radio Shack was still a shop that mainly sold radios! This little table is well built, picks up VHF very well, very decent @ AM (although not outstanding - ie can't pick up KTSA 550 AM in San Antonio during the day - 200 miles travel) but we have a lot of great stations in Houston, and it everything is well captured! The power supply is built-in, the pre-configured buttons provide additional convenience, the sound is very good for a (relatively) small table

Great radio for seniors!

If you've ever tried to buy new electronics for your elderly parents, you know how difficult it can be. I bought this radio for my 89 year old mother who enjoys listening to distant radio stations. Her old hand tuned radio sounded terrible. I couldn't hear the voice and music from the noise. Digital tuning is excellent, sensitivity is good, noise reduction is excellent compared to your old radio. Thanks to the large display and the simple controls, she quickly mastered it. And she loves that…

Excellent for the price

This is not a hi-fi radio, just a simple tabletop stand for listening to the news and music. The tuners seem to work well, there are no reception problems and the weather stations are much clearer than my other two radios. It's easy to use, the display is big and bright. I didn't have to extend the FM antenna to get good reception of the preset stations, one of which was a little annoying. This is NOT a clock radio so don't expect to use it as an alarm clock. I gave 5 stars as it's about as…

You get what you pay for here. Not things you don't need or don't use.

I bought this device before, about ten years ago. I've used it in my basement for all these years and it's a great gadget for me. When my top unit (an old GE radio) recently broke down, I went shopping and couldn't find anything better than what I already had, so I just bought a new one for the top floor. There is no backlight, the numbers really do glow. Saving stations is very easy. AM reception is better. It scans, but what's the difference, I already know the channels I want. There is an…

Just Enough for Me - Portable AV

I wasn't sure about this little guy when I ordered him. It has a very simple and almost robotic look, suggesting that it might not be of very good quality. I travel a lot during the weekdays and often sleep in a converted van rather than a motel room. I was looking for a small tabletop radio that was uncomplicated and could keep me up late with late night talk shows without having to use my van's on-board radio and running the risk of draining my battery. It is powered by four "C" elements and…

expensive but very good at what it does.

I used it in my workshop/shop. We needed weather channels and a backup battery because we live in Hurricane Central, Florida. We are in the peripheral reception area for both FM and AM so a strong digital tuner was essential. After reading the previous reviews I decided to jump on it, although I winced at the price. I'm glad I did. The tuner is powerful, catching stations I couldn't see clearly before. The volume is ok (I think some others had problems with the volume being low). It's actually…
