This is perfect for me. I have over 10,000 negatives to scan and it's a lot easier than previewing each negative with a negative scanner. I also tried it with some slides and had no problems installing or extracting them. Ignore negative reviews. They are written by people who have no idea and refuse to read the instructions. It's perfect for what it's meant to be.

Bought to replace a 1970's Kodak slide viewer. You would think that nobody could mess up an old tool like this that works with literally 50 year old old school photo technology. Instead of being a tool to get a job done, you play around and try to extract the slides. Slides in a cardboard or plastic frame, with rounded or square edges. It does not matter. It was lucky to kick her out. Second, the magnification was good, but the lighting was poor. Not light at all.

I've just looked at hundreds of slides and some I like have been able to take a picture through the viewer with my phone and then send it to my computer and then Photoshop to fix it. When I had some free time I decided to look through over 2000 slides that have been in my closet for probably 20 years.
