Excellent VHF and UHF reception in a compact package.

I am very impressed with the reception of this relatively small antenna on both VHF and UHF. It far outperforms the mini phantom style it replaced for me.

    Pros
    • Excellent overall performance
    Cons
    • No form required

    Really great VHF/UHF antennas!

This is the third one I have. They are just great and work well. I have one on my car and one on my truck. I gave it to a friend and he loves it too. SWR ADJUSTMENT is not required. If you really want to reset it, you can make small adjustments. It's completely stupid to pay more for another antenna just because of the brand. For 98% of mobile communications, you will hardly find a better antenna in this price range.

    • understandable for the old

    • Expensive insurance

Very good antenna, good value for money

I've been using my Elmer magnetic mount antenna for about 4 months, think I should get my own antenna and mount. I didn't want to use a magnetic mount or drill a hole for a mount. Passive through the glass was my 1st choice, but according to the instructions on the mount the only "right" spot on my car would be in the center of the windshield. As a result, I received a clip and this antenna. Works very well on 2m and 70cm Very happy with it

Great for 2 meter - antennas

Tested with FT-818 SWR meter and Nagoya RB-700N mount/cable. I don't have a real SWR meter yet. The antenna works great at a distance of 2 meters despite having a lower SWR than my Diamond Mag Mount. But 70cm is another story, the SWR is so high that if I don't turn the power down to 1 watt my radio will stop transmitting, even then the SWR has gone through the roof! If you're looking for a $10 single band 2m NMO antenna, you can't go wrong. -2 stars for utility like scrap metal at 70cm.

    • Expensive but decent

    Little Magic Antenna

Great little antenna with low SWR, no tuning and amazing wide frequency range. Now I have one of these on both my truck and my car. I measured SWR and impedance on both bands with a Comet CAA-500 meter and plotted the results. The graphics should speak for themselves as to why I like these antennas so much. Based on measurements the antenna is mounted on an NMO mount through the roof of my '08 Prius to the rear. The build quality seems to be normal, no problems so far. The one on the truck has…

    Really good HMO antenna

Finally decided to drill a hole in the roof of my car and install a real antenna. This antenna is the equivalent of the 1185 magnetic mount. I initially used the 1185 with good results, but didn't like the coax cable that went through the ceiling. I also bought a 3/4nm mount and installed this antenna in the center of the roof above the dome. Performance is better than the magnetic mount and the coax cable is now hidden down to the radio. The SWR is very flat on all bands. I am very happy with…

Surprisingly better than my Comet and Diamond antennas on my Polaris UTV

I tried this antenna on my steel roof Polaris Ranger UTV as I had no luck with two Comet antennas and a Diamond antenna with VSWR. Prior to this antenna I had two (one on the corner mount at the rear of the cabin and one through the NMO mount through the roof) Laird 4502 at 450 - 470MHz and Comet SS680 at 2 metres. This tram has surprisingly good SWRs of 1.1 at 144MHz, 1.5 at 148MHz, 1.5 at 450MHz and 1.8 at 462MHz. This is now my main antenna for this broadband operating UTV.

    Great for the money

I have used a 38 inch browning and tram on my work truck and car but on the car and truck it looked a little weird having been doubled from less height am I very surprised by this antenna. it works just as well on my browning BR180 I can get an 87 mile repeater with my previous antenna and also on this 1181 tram great for the price and now I'm not hitting trees and my car hasn't checked a ridiculously long antenna SWR and 1 Received 1:1-1.2:1 on 145-148MHz and 1.3:1-1.5:1 on 444-449MHz, very…

    SURE TO GET YOURS!

This antenna surprised me, it worked very well and extended further than I expected for its size. I checked the SWR and it was just a hair but not enough to play around with. I installed it on my Yamaha YXZ1000R and it had very good dune and camping coverage. Unfortunately the tree decided to pull my whip out of the holder, STICK YOUR OWN! Update - after 1 year I'm looking for something else. Now I have a collection of bases because now the trees have stolen some of my antennas. It's not the…

    Great for the money

I used a 38" browning and tram on my work truck and car but it looked a little weird on the car and truck. I crashed into trees many times, I decided to try half the height antenna, I am very surprised by this antenna. It works just as well on my Browning BR180, I can get an 87 mile repeater with my previous antenna and also with this 1181 tram, great for the price and now I don't hit trees and my car doesn't have a ridiculous length Lifetime antenna, I checked the SWR and got 1.1:1-1.2:1 from…

    Very surprised at the performance

I bought this antenna for backup use with a 2m/70cm dual band radio and VHF marine radio on a sailboat. The antenna is mounted on a rail about 10 feet above the water. It replaced the damaged Diamond antenna and Shakespeare VHF antenna. The antenna connects to two radios (Yaesu 7900 and Icom Marine VHF radio) via an A/B switch. Neither the tram nor the diamond antenna (both NMO mounts) were intended for use on boats. The Diamond antenna has never had a problem connecting to high level repeaters

    Pros
    • No tuning required
    Cons
    • Useless features
