I used four pillows, three stacked on top of each other and one stuffed next to it. The disappointing thing about this stool is that the navy blue zipper is visible and unattractive; it ruins the optics. Why not use a zipper that matches the color of the fabric? This item is great for hiding excess decorative pillows/duvets/jeans/plaids/dropped clothes. They call it! I read some comments about it not having/holding shape so I solved this problem with cardboard and tape. I like these colors but they weren't well thought out. I bought these to replace the tops of some existing poufs. I measured and they were perfect. Well present poufs are unbuttoned on three sides.
