With the Age Garbage

This review is written after 10 months of ownership. Initially this dock worked great, it was fast and you could clone drives. 3 to 4 months of use/ownership - read/write speeds dropped drastically. After the first cloning of an encrypted hard drive, the cloning function stopped working properly. Programs like CrystalDiskInfo/CrystalDiskMark cannot perform a SMART test or retrieve detailed information on any drive in the dock. Now the docking station or not at all came into the hard disk…

Amazing duplicator for the price

I am very happy with this product. I bought this duplicator because it clones 512 byte 4 KB physical sector hard drives. The last cloning dock I bought was the Vantec NexStar USB 3.0 Duplicator (NST-DP100S3) which is limited to cloning hard drives with 512 byte physical sectors, which is stated in the product description on the Revain or Vantec website was not explicitly stated. Don't worry about formatting your hard drive with StarTech Duplicator as it easily clones 512 byte sector and 4 KB…

Pros
  • There's something in there
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Worked great; Highly recommend

This worked great. I backed up my entire new OS drive and decided to expand it to a much larger drive. At first I thought it wouldn't work as it took a few hours so I left it overnight thinking I somehow messed up the whole backup. I didn't even turn it off. The next morning it stopped and the installation was complete. Since then I have had absolutely no problems with the new drive and have for almost a year. Good product. Highly recommended, no complaints. UPDATE: More than a year later still

"Not exactly, just a mess.

Works great as a docking station for accessing your drives but not for copying. Tried two different combinations of hard drives. Both Windows 10 (maybe that's the problem). Both disks with a copy crash with a blue screen on first boot and then reboot to the desktop. However, they are both now not activated and have no windows keys.? I rekeyed and activated the keys and the bot discs kind of flop, fly to blue screen here and there, and you abruptly reboot the PC in the middle of IE. So no, I…

  • Brilliantly done

Amazing copier priced at

I am very satisfied with this product. I bought this duplicator because it clones hard drives with both a 512 byte physical sector and a 4 KB physical sector. The last cloning dock I bought was the Vantec NexStar USB 3.0 Duplicator (NST-DP100S3) which is limited to cloning hard drives with 512 byte physical sectors, which is stated in the product description on the Revain or Vantec website was not explicitly stated. Don't worry about formatting your hard drive with StarTech Duplicator as it…

Pros
  • VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY: This plug-and-play, IT-grade hard drive duplication dock connects via a USB 3.0 or eSATA port with UASP (6Gb/s), giving you multiple hosts and one fast connection

Clone Rollback Rx with all snapshots

I was looking for a way to clone Rollback Rx from one disk to another without losing my snapshots. It worked perfectly. This is a godsend as me and other Rollback Rx users have been trying to clone without snapshots for years. (Drive Cloner Rx 6 is supposed to do this, but I couldn't get this program to work. The only program that worked for me is EaseUS Disk Copy, which is free but doesn't always recognize an external drive.) One caveat, my original and destination disks were identical. So I…

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • So far so good

Great thing: data storage

Over the years I've seen many product names come and go. So far everything I have found from this StarTech company has been a really good quality item for the price. You can find many other cloners and I'm sure at a lower price but based on the experience I had with the ST I bought this one. - Good quality - Nice and heavy for what looks like plastic. - No problem, works like a charm. Tested cloning a 250GB disk to a 500GB disk, which was the default boot MBR. Plugged the clone into the machine

Pros
  • handy thing
Cons
  • no insurance

Great alternative to phantom drives for Direct TV users!

Let me start by saying that most people I've spoken to have connected an external drive to a Direct TV DVR, all the same self-contained phantom drives. They are available from 1TB to 6TB, some with cache and some without. The first thing you notice is that these discs are old standard 5400 rpm magnetic discs. They have their own power supply and are completely enclosed. I've been through quite a few of them over the years, averaging maybe two years per ride. I've been told it's about the life…

  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Only available in black
