Purchased September 2015. Fits most vent caps. If the magnets don't stick, your vent cover is either plastic or a non-magnetic metal like aluminum. In my case I have plastic lids but I found a pretty easy workaround. I bought some repair steel plates from Home Depot for about $2 and attached them to the ceiling with a vent cap. It was important that the plates were made of steel, otherwise the magnets would not stick. With repair plates, the magnets had something to hold on to. See my photos…

I just received these and when they start melting I will return them. I don't understand how my heat pump can be warm enough to melt plastic but they are so cheap. The above description is a mess. He cites different lengths, different versions of possible uses. This is a list of controversial points. The product I actually received is made for baseboards, not wall, floor or ceiling registers, despite the promises above. The magnets are wedged between plastic strips so they only work on the sides. I am giving 4 stars because it is about what you would expect from a cheap piece of plastic. However, there are some potential problems. I bought this to solve the problem of a poorly placed ceiling vent in my apartment blowing air straight in my face when my bed is in one of the 3 possible configurations for my room.
