This is Gutermann, he's the best!

I miss my local fabric shop, Gutermann's yarn was the only yarn he sold. He always said that was the best way. I use a 70 year old Singer Featherweight or the new Janome Sewist 500 for quilting and mending, this thread doesn't catch or break in either machine.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Updates available

Gutermann can't go wrong

This is one of two brands I use and I think the quality is excellent. I can always rely on my thread. But the packaging is a different story. When I receive this thread, it's always covered with some kind of dirty material on the outside of the thread itself. I wish clean spools could be shipped. I like that they come in a plastic bag.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Hard to remember but it was

Gutermann quality drops

I really love Gutermann yarn. This color, #22, is an off-white that I use for almost anything where the thread won't show, especially quilting. But in the last year or two I've noticed that the thread tends to crumble with machine sewing. Unexpectedly, in the middle of a stitch, 30% of the thread will break and tangle/fray towards the sewing machine. I always hope it's an accident but it happens all the time so it's probably a quality control issue.

Pros
  • economy coil. 100% long staple polyester. For all purposes
Cons
  • Crumpled

This thread breaks - especially when sewing by hand

I sewed everything. 45+ years old. Just started sewing doll clothes again for the "Covid" hobby. Bought this thread. my first Gutermann experience. It appears to be "microns" thinner than my other threads that are still in my sewing box. And I see it's all polyester. It doesn't suit me and I mainly sew from cotton. But my biggest disappointment. What an expensive thread. frayed when filling the needle (also big eye). Fries. scold again. It rubs more. I'm not very impressed. I will not buy…

Pros
  • Ideal for natural and synthetic fibers
Cons
  • Something else

My favorite thread for many years!

In a world where there is a lot of debate about which yarn is the best, I believe Gutermann does the job for me and does it well. I mainly sew bags and quilts, and in these projects I use both polyester and pure cotton threads. With a wide range of colors and roll sizes to choose from, I've always been happy with Gutermann. It glides flawlessly across my car, never frays or tangles, and stays strong on my projects. I also like that it's affordable and much easier to find than other specialty…

Pros
  • Made in Germany
Cons
  • Without automatic
