Dead zone due to play

After installation, the steering wheel had about 2 cm of play. Backlash occurs due to the splined sliding part of the shaft. Purchase a better quality replacement shaft.

The male and male shaft ends have too much play.

This product was the cheapest and fits my 2009 F-150 well. It FITS but there is enough dirt in it that I now have a dead zone in the center of the steering wheel. Not enough to be dangerous, but uncomfortable. I will be buying more soon.

Too much play.: Bezel

Loose between inner and outer part. Holding a bare knot doesn't feel like much, but there is +1 inch of steering wheel play. I ended up reinstalling the old one because a bit of gluing was better than trying to keep the car straight. In this case you pay for the theatre.

Half the price of the half price parts store.

This worked on a 2014 f150 that was having trouble turning. Station wagons were captured and repaired. The lady had a $700 workshop quote and it took 30 minutes. Just remember to tie down the steering wheel and keep the truck off the ground. Turning the wheel slightly to the left of center allows you to take everything off without disturbing the camber. You will need a small chisel to pry open the cracks in the shaft so it can be easily removed.

Pros
  • Body and Fairing

  • Useless features

Didn't solve my problem

Was hoping they were bad frogs but I think my entire rack needs a replacement for Ford's EPAS (Electric Power Steering). Now the handlebar rotates to the right when going straight, I used 4 ratchet straps, made sure the handlebar doesn't move, after installing it is still misaligned. Only $50 now I have yet to fix my problem and it's a 1600+ from Ford and my steering is worse. I'm sure it would help if my joints were really bad.

Steering Shaft Play/Play, Wheel rotated slightly clockwise with this part

The component has too much play/play in the telescopic shaft resulting in a steering dead zone large enough to concern me wrong with my installation. There was none. The split ring that goes on the rack splines had a small burr from cutting the rails into the split ring clamp that prevented the ring from slipping along the splines. I removed the burr after realizing the part was difficult to install and everything went pretty smoothly after that. The unevenness of the part creates play in the…
