Not the best for S&W M&P22 Compact

I bought these yellow plastic wall mounts specifically for my S&W M&P22 Compact to use the snap caps but found them too small and the base too thin. I immediately went to Home Depot and found these white plastic wall anchors (#8-#10 x 1 inch) 10 for $2 that were the perfect diameter/length and good edge thickness, just like a federal 22LR bullet. The white also fits perfectly in the magazine, it can be easily inserted from the magazine into the barrel. 1" anchors are best bought for the M&P 22โ€ฆ

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • No machine

No kidding, these are the best 22lr rimfire baseball caps!

I came across these while looking for 22lr primers for dry shooting. Talk about the creative use of wall anchors! They transition perfectly from magazine to chamber. It takes 12-15 hits to damage the rim, but if you spin it you can easily get 50 hits in a "round". The flange is the perfect size so they also eject like regular grenades. I've run them through revolvers, semi-automatics, and bolt-action rifles, and so far there haven't been any jams. If they get stuck, you can just put a screw inโ€ฆ

Pros
  • So far satisfied
Cons
  • So-so

Functional and economical.

I was skeptical when I ordered them but was surprised at how well they worked with my .22 LR rifles (Walter PPK/S; Berretta 70S; Ruger 22/45 Lite and 3 Ruger 10/22s ) . For my application which is to dry out a fire for storage between trips they work well. Now, as they say, they do not work well when dry-shooting again, for example, with a full magazine. The ribbed design makes it difficult to load into the magazine. It works (to an extent) but they are better suited for one time loading/firing

Pros
  • Best in class
Cons
  • Some bugs

Drywall yes, Ruger caps 10/22 no

There are some opinions on the internet that this is a great alternative to 22LR caps. In some cases this may be the case, but not for the Ruger 10/22 rotary magazine. As shown in the picture, the ribs are at the point of insertion, making loading more difficult than it should be. In another picture you can see that the slightly thinner cone causes the anchors to be pushed into the magazine instead of into a gap. These are probably good drywall anchors although they are a bit more expensive soโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Looks like Hillman switched suppliers.

Bought these in 2017 and 2018, used them as snaps on my .22 caliber firearms, not anchors. It used to work great, new ones are useless as cheap bars. The last order was for gifts. Was very disappointed when I saw them. Looks like Hillman switched suppliers. The last two boxes were of the same quality as in the 99 cent store. I'm not sure I would even use them as wall anchors. Here are photos of the latest ones alongside the earlier ones. Old on the right, new on the left. Very clear differenceโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Heavy duty construction
Cons
  • Small parts

Great caps in .22 LR! Approximately 6-8 uses/anchor.

I just tried them on my CZ 457 American and they are perfect for ammo and seem to throw projectiles just as well. I say they seem to eject perfectly because I don't normally lock the latch like I normally would otherwise I'd have to look around to pick them up. For practice, I use my 3D printed single-shot adapter (essentially a modified magazine that holds the cartridge at the optimal loading angle), so I only work with one anchor at a time. As you can see in my photo, I can pull 6-8 triggerโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Anchor
Cons
  • I don't remember

To return. on Latches

Below is my previous review in case anyone can find the real "snaps" I'm looking for. They have been redesigned and have smaller rims, making them useless for rimfire. However, I'm still giving it a 5-star rating because I'm sure they work great as the anchors they were designed for. It comes out of the shooter at grandmaster speed. Anyone who's tried snap-on caps in .22lr knows they're a phenomenal waste of money: $2 a piece and they'll snap on the first hit with a hammer, often to the pointโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Latches
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Perfect Snap Cap (Round Cap) for .22 Rifles

I can't comment on how effectively these anchors handle bolt and bearing loads. But they are perfect for .22 shot/long/long rifle rimfire rifles. The .22 gauge plastic snap caps made by companies like Tipton are expensive and brittle, breaking almost instantly. Aluminum bolts from companies like Pachmayer are too hard and can damage the firing pin and other internal components of the rifle. While they don't cycle/feed out of the magazine (at least not in my Henry rig), Hillman's 4-6-8x7/8โ€ฆ

Pros
  • Industrial & Scientific
Cons
  • No Performance
