The screw holes on the back of the bracket are 1.25" wide so I can insert my screws into the wall studs. I was more comfortable with brackets attached this way than with drywall. I used two brackets per shelf for fairly short shelves and plan to order more brackets to complete the project. Some shelves will be 62 inches long. I think two brackets will handle these shelves. I think this item is high quality and well made. It is a 7/16" rod welded to a 1/8" plate for wall mounting. It can be installed on wood, drywall, drywall, metal or just about anything you want to hang your floating shelf on. I would give this product 5 stars but I found that the dowels used to attach the corkscrew were the correct weight for assembly but the screws were not the correct diameter to properly attach the wall plate. Please note when purchasing that they are clearly designed for use with anchors and not bolts. They come with decent drywall and concrete anchors to give credit. The brackets are too wide for the studs and lose the set screw recess when side mounted and only tilt when side mounted. The construction of the brackets themselves seems really solid and their installation is fairly easy. The only issues I had with this product were: (1) One of the protruding bars wasn't 100% straight so I had to use a 1/2" drill instead of the recommended 7/16" to drill holes in my drill shelf. .
