Review on ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Dell S2417DG Monitor: Enhanced 24 Inch Display with 60Hz Response Rate by Dustin Grayson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great monitor for gaming.

I'm giving it 5 stars now because I like it, but I've only used it a few days so far. The monitor came very quickly within a day, so kudos to Revain. The items in the box are typical Dell inventory: monitor, stand, base, CD, and cables. The base and stand are easy to assemble; It has a knurled screw that can be mounted without tools. Vesa mount for those who want to mount them with Vesa mount installed. After running several different games, I noticed an improvement in FPS performance. The most notable improvement is Rainbow Six Siege. Everything runs much smoother without jerking or jerking. I enabled G-Sync and overclocked the monitor to 165Hz, which greatly improved the game's performance. Colors aren't as vivid as IPS, but that's to be expected, but I think it's easier on the eye than gaming on an IPS monitor. The color is not too bright and not too sharp when the screen seems to hurt the eyes. This monitor feels soft and smooth. ADVANTAGES: - Easy assembly; require no tools. - High refresh rate and response time; FPS improvement with a very noticeable difference for a fast paced game like a first person shooter. - Convenient on-screen menu. It was easy to overclock to 165Hz - Useful USB hub (4 USB ports); This is really great because I almost ran out of USB port and didn't really want to use the front USB port for aesthetic reasons. I use it to extend my gaming keyboard furthest from the tower, allowing for looser and more attractive cable routing. I also use it to charge my wireless headset; When the monitor is in sleep mode, the monitor turns off the screen but continues to provide power to the USB hub. - Good stand for cable management; I can hide the cable through the grommet and go under my desk. Looks nice and tidy. - Subjectively positive: I find the TN panel to be much easier on the eye during long gaming sessions as the screen isn't as bright and crisp as IPS. In gaming I can handle the color accuracy, in gaming it doesn't matter. CONS: - Color isn't as bright or punchy compared to an IPS panel (this is to be expected from a TN panel, I turned it down as some people see it as a disadvantage of TN compared to IPS) - The Viewing angle is smaller compared to IPS, so you have to stand in front of the monitor to see it better. (That's the nature of the TN panel, so that's to be expected.) - Lack of instructions. It's really just gossip. It's not really a big deal as you can always download the user manual from the web, but it can be helpful to have a printed manual to look up some initial settings (there's a quick setup guide, but it just shows you how They all connect.) Again, few people read manuals. A printed manual would be a waste of resources and money. Conclusion: This is a monitor with an excellent price-performance ratio. It's hard to find a 24-inch, 2560 x 1440, 144Hz monitor for less than $400. The quality is excellent so far, I will update later if the quality degrades. I would recommend this monitor to gamers, not content creators. In most fast paced games, you won't see that much of an improvement playing Leagues of Legend or Sims in my opinion. (In the picture, the left and right monitors are Acer IPS monitors. Both resolutions are 2560 x 1440)
