You get what you pay for. I like

Bought this for my kids for Christmas a year ago. Never open to see. When they finally opened it up, we found that the switch blade used to turn on the light was installed upside down in the "U" bracket. The point of contact was up, so when the mirror side was up, the light turned on down. It was well past the return deadline so I figured for the price it wasn't the worst. I've optimized the work around. But now my kids have used it about 3 times and the U shaped bracket broke at the ball joint

Very disappointing - Microscopes

Very cheaply made. It's very difficult to focus on anything. Difficult to get enough light. I am a trained professional microscopist and it took me at least 10 minutes to see one of the samples sent in. I finally have my focus, but the focus controls are so loose that as soon as you release them, the stage goes down an inch and the subject is badly out of focus again. Not recommended at all, but definitely not for a child under 10 years old. Used for an hour with the nephew they bought for. He…

Suitable for compound monocular microscopes up to 12 years old

Based on the reviews left I expected more but was disappointed. I was very excited about being 30 when I remembered how awesome it was to see things under a microscope like I did in high school, but sadly it was disappointing. I followed the reviewers helpful advice to see the cells and of course started with the darkest/largest and I could see the cells but there was only a portion of the cells that wasn't terribly blurry. Everything seemed fine but the sight failed to focus. So it was blurry,

Great for young children

I bought this for my mum because she loves looking at nature. She asked for one for Mother's Day and after thinking about the price a bit I relented and bought an AMSCope Kids entry-level microscope. To be honest I'm not too happy with this purchase (and I'm not hard to please). The microscope is a bit flimsy and many consumables feel cheap. However the product was made for a child and I think it would be a good set for a beginner. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone over the age of 11. The case…

This is not for picky, primitive scientists.

Cons: - The items included in the kit are almost like food toys for children, very thin - The body is no better than a box of very thin plastic. But it's about the scope - the zoom in/out button moves the lens a bit when it's in use, so you have to hold it down - so light is the Brite that you can't point it at an object. You have to hide it a bit - it's a bit fiddly and might not be for those who want $30 lab quality. And it shouldn't be. So I don't know if that's an argument or a plus: - It…

Great potential if you learn some "tricks " to use it

When I first opened this gift for my nephew (to test the quality before giving it to him), saw me not. However, my partner, a doctor, helped me learn how to use it and now I can see everything perfectly. This product has a lot of potential, but in order to use it you need to practice a few "ticks". I have some tips for users and tips for AmScope. Tips for users (please read all tips before attempting to view them): 1) To view prepared slides, you must start at the *lowest* magnification, find…
