I had the same problem as everyone else, that is.

I had the same problem as everyone else, it doesn't lay flat with the center post. My husband cut it out and now it fits perfectly. No problem with the ceramic heating lamp positioned directly above. (Although it initially smelled like paint or something, that's no longer a problem.) I covered the top with plastic wrap until I bought plexiglass. soil to retain moisture.

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • There are flaws

It got stuck in the middle and my snake could have easily escaped

Although the size was right for my 75 gallon tank, it didn't fit properly and I couldn't use it because of the loop in the middle not working Does not fit properly on the center spacer of the tank. It got stuck in the middle and my snake easily escaped. The mesh is also a lot thinner than I expected. Just putting something like a water bottle on the lid created a dent. Wouldn't recommend it.

  • Free for educational purposes
Cons

Should have read the reviews.

The design is pretty terrible. I bought this for my snake tank and ended up having to cut out the center brace to accommodate the hinge. And I can't think of a single tank with this footprint that doesn't have a center brace, so it would make sense for the manufacturer to place the hinge a few inches to the right or left of center. For an aquarium with snakes, the lid should lay flat and snap into place. Do not buy if your tank has a center brace that you don't want to cut out of your tank.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Not quite for 75 gallon tanks

I have the same problem as everyone but unfortunately there are no 75 gallon horizontal loop tops. The 75 gallon tanks have a center support brace so these lids don't sit flush on them, not sure why they even bother selling them for 75 gallon tanks but whatever. If it doesn't annoy you that it doesn't sit flat, that's fine, but I have a light bar running across the top and it's wobbling now. Just have to deal with this as I really don't want to modify and possibly break my tank.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

I'm glad I read the reviews on here, otherwise I'd be really pissed off. As you know most long tanks have a medium sized support bar so it is beyond my power to put hinges on the underside where the support bar goes. Like the others, we have to hack our tank to get this rod out. It still doesn't fit perfectly, but it's better than nothing! The cute little lizard can't get out and the big fat black cat can't get in. She's strong enough to hold the lights up and the big black cat that's lying…

Pros
  • 1 year trial

Perfect Fit: Reptiles & Amphibians

I needed a simple lid for my aquarium to keep me from making an official full size hood (optional considering the base was made from 6 cement blocks and a 3/ 4 inch piece of plywood). I needed something that would let Mr. Turtle's UVA/UVB rays through and prevent jumping fish from jumping and falling into a long sleep ALSO provide enough power to keep the cats from falling over. Put this cover in line. On my side and bam, a cardboard screwed into a wooden plank is now in the garbage heap which…

Make sure you know what devices you have for compatibility!

This is a decent screen. But it is very weak when working with strong light. My main complaints are: 1) I have a Repti Zoo double stand for my mercury vapor lights that attaches to my 75 gallon tank. I had to cut a piece out of the frame for the screen to use or clip on. The bracket sits above the screen (making it impossible to remove.) 2) The hinges are actually a downside, no matter which side I lift, they're going to hit me with $75 lightbulbs if I'm not careful. 3) They bend fairly easily.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Updates available
