Review on Aeternity by Othere Obtentus

Off-chain Transactions

Aeternity utilizes another off-chain mechanism comparable with side chains,
but not quite the same, which is called state channels. The state channel is
more like a side lane. So the key Dapp is installed on the Blockchain, much as the typical case, however the interaction will be off the Blockchain on the state channel not on the Blockchain.
This handling of transactions on a channel not only facilitates robustness, but also ensures anonymity. And it's easy for companies who wish to keep the transactions confidential to cover the transactions on the site and keep it secret. The transaction record will also be available on the Blockchain if desired.
The aim of off-chain transactions is not to overwhelm the main blockchain. While so many transactions are to be placed to the database, the validation times will delay as well as the transactions will not be accepted automatically. By settling such off-chain transactions, this preserves security while retaining pace.

Pros
  • Nano payments and micro payments
  • Smart-contracts using Oracles
  • Introduced new smart contract language and VMs
Cons
  • The only problem with Aeternity is its poor marketing
