Net-neutrality and user's privacy over the internet is becoming bigger and bigger concern. Substratum shows in a perferct place at a perfect time. We just need to wait and keep our fingers crossed that they will deliver. I think, it's worth waiting.

Pros
  • With nowadays technology we can accomplish distributed p2p network, where every user is treated equally and can access any address in the network. The biggest problem was hosting a node. Non-geeky person wouldn't host TOR because it is too hard to set up, net-traffic generated by TOR was easily distinguishable from other. Simply put, too much risk, too small reward. Substratum's guys found the way to solve this.In theirs scheme hosting a node will be easy as pie and will give you economical benefits, small reward as a SUB token for hosting. SUBnode traffic will look the same as regular net-traffic. Simply put, low risk, relatively big reward. You will be able to enter sites hosted on the network, and more interestingly, you will also be able to visit any site from regular Internet. Example : Human in China queries SUBnode for facebook.com, SUBnode in US queries facebook's server and conveys the data to user in China. Now people behind Great Firewall will be able to see forbidden sites, using regular Internet connection, without Firewall noticing with minimal human-effort and additional economical profit. Communication with team is clear, they are active in social-media. Beta testers started work, next version will be public. Also devs annouced open-sourcing code. They don't hurry and keep focus on delivering best possible product.
Cons
  • As for today, project is very ambitous, if we need to point out cons, that could be their current progress, marketing and not-open-source code. Current investor can only hope and believe in the team, that they will deliver. Just for today, we can't really see results of their work on our own machine. They don't put too much on marketing, but i think that will change after the release. It is hard to advertise sth that people can't see.
