I purchased this microscope (September 2015) for a home science class I teach and I am happy with my purchase. The microscope meets all my needs and is definitely better than anything I have used before in my class. The software certainly does more than what I need for elementary and high school science classes. I wish it came with additional instructions as there are additional parts in the packaging which I cannot determine their function. I've been teaching high school science for 10 years and I've never seen this extra detail. To calibrate the measurement of a digital sight, you must purchase a calibration caliper (TS-M1 micrometer), which is not included. I agree with a clear ruler, but for a more advanced user this will clearly not be enough! I just want my students to feel the magnification and relative size of objects. As a side note, AmScope says the shipping weight was 8 pounds, this is being shipped via UPS with a shipping weight of (they said) 5 pounds. Shipping to Alaska shouldn't be that expensive and I definitely want the shipping options to include USPS. $68 to ship this microscope is pretty ridiculous, but I guess that's the cost of living here.
