Review on 🔧 Enhance Performance with Gates T286 Premium Automotive Timing Belt by Jim Shirodkar

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I have never regretted using the Gates belt and advised myself to change the timing belt.

I went cheap and just replaced the belt on my 2001 Honda 3.5L V6. The water pump and tensioner were still leak free and appeared solid. I don't really like puzzles. You won't be sorry you remembered to remove the dipstick tube first and install it last, otherwise the little screw holding it in place will get in the way. Then remove the V-ribbed belt tensioner and install in front of the dipstick tube in the same way. I bought this car with 176,000 miles and changed the belt immediately. I'm pretty sure it was the original strap that I took off the van. There were many small cracks and chips around. I have never regretted using the Gates belt. A few more ideas; timing belt wrench. When he comes out, don't leave him alone for a minute. Also, the control screw hole is tapered at the bottom, so you need to use something as a washer to keep the screw from going down when you use it to turn the crank.

Pros
  • PTFE impregnated jackets to reduce friction losses and tooth shear
Cons
  • Big and bulky
