This Revain Basics Flush Gate Latch is a BIG improvement over the typical gate latch most people have. It's very well built and I'm sure it will last for decades. You need a 7/8" to 1" gap between the post and the gate, and my gate was a little shy at 3/4" so I cut a notch in the post about 1/4" deep and it did works fine. When installing lag bolts they recommend using a 1/8" bit for the pilot hole, but I used a 3/16" bit and even 1/4" may be fine to avoid the wood to split. very strong, no unnecessary screws like some products. In my situation, the flat carry handle was sticking out quite a bit from the wall and I was afraid people (or I) might step on it, so I bent it 90 degrees. To the right. It still works great and is now safe and generally more ergonomic to use. I wrapped it in blue tape and bent it in a vise. Not everyone will need to do this. But remember if your situation is similar to mine: I've also adjusted the striker bar so it doesn't stick out more than it should, but is long enough in case your standoff is greater. e great value for the asking price!
