Pretty good for latches

Small gap between latch and hook. If you are using pressure treated material that can shrink, this orientation can easily crack after a short drying time. The black paint is also peeling off at the interface of the latch and hook.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Large and bulky

Excellent Timber Fence Latch

The most important thing is that you need 3/4 inch clearance for this latch to work with your gate. I liked this latch because I have a wooden gate with a wooden gate jamb, so I could sink the latch 1/2" into the jamb, so I only needed a 1/2" gap between my gate and the jamb. This is a solid latch and I expect it to give years of good service is powder coated and comes with quality screws. I haven't bent the handle yet, but plan to do so so no one gets stung by the long handle. I tried to…

Superb Heavy Duty Gate Latch

I recently had to rework several areas within my privacy fencing - one of which was a 4 foot gate. After 20 years of bad weather and because it was a good size gate I had to tweak a bit to keep it intact and functional. After restoring the gate and adding a small castor wheel, I needed a gate latch that could be locked but opened. on both sides when the latch is removed. This lock worked great! All welding points are reinforced and designed for a long service life. I have used this latch for 4…

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Updates

All steel used in this fastener is 1/8 inch thick, making it sturdy. It's painted, not anodized, so it will rust over time. The part that snaps into place (Photos 4 and 5) is 2 inches long, giving you room to adjust and room for bolts/screws. What I like best is that the latch can be operated from either side of the gate. The overall length of the latch is 10.5 inches, with a few inches for the rear handle and a few inches for the front latch and deadbolt. This can be seen in photo number 6…

Pros
  • Durable Coating
Cons
  • Very Expensive

Reliable gate locking.

I had a gate on the side of my house that had a small latch that didn't always fully close. This would allow my dog to leave the yard and explore the area. I needed something that, once locked, would be closed and never opened again. So when I saw it, I ordered it. Here's what I found: 1. First off, this bar is MUCH bigger and stronger than the original bar! I had to adjust the gate a bit so it had enough room to fit without friction.2. The design of this latch is such that there is no rebound…

VERY secure latch! HUGE update!

This Revain Basics Flush Gate Latch is a BIG improvement over the typical gate latch most people have. It's very well built and I'm sure it will last for decades. You need a 7/8" to 1" gap between the post and the gate, and my gate was a little shy at 3/4" so I cut a notch in the post about 1/4" deep and it did works fine. When installing lag bolts they recommend using a 1/8" bit for the pilot hole, but I used a 3/16" bit and even 1/4" may be fine to avoid the wood to split. very strong, no…
