Review on D-Link Powerline Adapter Starter Kit: Transform Your Power Outlet into a High-Speed Gigabit AV2 2000Mbps MIMO Internet Network with DHP-701AV by Tim Knain

Latest and best, no performance issues

I love powerline adapters (mainly out of disdain for WiFi) and after using a few from TP-Link and Trendnet I decided to give these a try. All of the powerline adapters I used worked great, but as speeds increased I updated them (i.e. TP-Link and Trendnet devices still worked very well after the swap). In any case, they work great. I have a townhouse with my main setup (a 24-port switch and a dozen servers, NAS boxes, etc.) downstairs, my main home theater setup (plus router and modem) downstairs, and a few bedrooms upstairs. Ethernet could easily be routed from the basement to the ground floor, but on the second floor it was a different story (so powerline adapters). I've tried MOCA, which has worked well, but this one works great. Easy setup, consistently fast connection (which our HDHomeRun uses to send downloaded MPEG2 streams to other devices), and no issues. The main disadvantage is the size of the adapter and the lack of a through channel. You'll need an extension cord, or better yet, one of those squids. In any case, make sure they have a standard plug. Many flat or swivel plugs will not fit close and must be plugged directly into the outlet. Other than that, they work great. Sure, ethernet is better, but if that's not possible, they'll get the job done.
